THROUGH JUN 27: Mel Johnson, Jr. directs Tom Dugan in Dugan’s ROBERT E. LEE – SHADES OF GRAY at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills. Dugan won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his performance as “Nazi Hunter- Simon Wiesenthal,” in a play that he wrote.


JUN 28 – JULY 15: Kristina Wong’s one woman show GOING GREEN THE WONG WAY, directed by Paul Tei.


Jun 29: ONE NIGHT ONLY – Little Candle Productions will debut with a one-night only performance of “The Winter’s Tale” at Glendale’s historic Alex Theatre.


THROUGH JUN 29: FELLOWSHIP, the musical based on The Fellowship of the Ring, continues at the Steve Allen Theatre.

THROUGH JUL 15: MACHA THEATRE/Films and Odalys Nanin have extended the West Coast Premiere of BitchSlap! by Darrin Hagen, directed by Odalys Nanin.  BitchSlap! is a comedic take on the long-running dispute between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford from 1935 until Crawford’s death in 1977.

THROUGH JULY 15: Musical Theatre West is proud to announce that it will close its 59th consecutive season with the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT.  MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT will be helmed by Musical Theatre West’s Artistic Director Steven Glaudini (MTW’s ANNIE, THE PRODUCERS).


THROUGH JUL 18. For their main stage entry into the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Coeurge will produce Is He Dead? which tells the story of an impoverished painter in 1840’s France who fakes his own death in order to escape his debts, then dresses as a woman to cover the trick. August 3 – September 9. Stephen Sondheim’s provocative musical about successful and failed assassins of Presidents of the United States. Originally produced Off-Broadway, Assassins was supposed to receive its Broadway debut in 2011, but that production was put on hold due to the events of September 11th. Directed by Julianne Donelle.  September 29 – October 28. THE WEST COAST PREMIERE of Sean Graney’s hit play. Originally produced by The Hypocrites theatre company, The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide received a transfer to New York after a wildly successful run in Chicago. A truly dark comedy, the play is literally the suicide note of a ten year old, which his classmates are forced to act out. Director Joe Calarco was a cast member of the original production.


JULY 19-22: LA Theatre Works presents Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco.What do you do when everyone around you is turning into a rhinoceros?  In Eugene Ionesco’s farcical French classic that defines Theatre of the Absurd, Stanley Berenger is an unhappy clerk who faces this odd reality in his daily life. Written during the German occupation of Paris, this masterful comedy became a metaphor for conformity and culture that still resonates today. (Thursday @ 8 pm; Friday @ 8 pm; Saturday @ 3 pm & 8 pm; Sunday @ 2 pm & 7 pm)

JUL 21 – AUG 25: Michael Matthews directs All Your Hard Work  co-produced for Brimmer Street Theatre Company by Ken Werther and Michael Bulger. The play was developed as part of the 2011 Brimmer Street ‘Blueprint Series,’ and is a guest production at the Lillian Theatre.


JUL 21 – AUG 26: MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION by Emmy winner Peter Lefcourt includes Bobby Costanzo, Gwendolyn Druyor and Gina Hecht, among others.

APR 2013: In 2013, to celebrate the City of San Gabriel’s Centennial, the Mission Playhouse will present a fullystaged version of The Mission Play. This work, set in California during the 1700’s, was first staged 100 years ago, ran for decades and drew millions of people to San Gabriel. More information
