JUNE 21-24: LA Theatre Works presents The Browning Version by Terence Rattigan, featuring Martin JarvisIan Ogilvie and Joanne Whalley. Terence Rattigan’s 1948 masterpiece about a schoolmaster who must give up his 18 year post at an English public school. Brilliantly exploring the complexity of the human heart, it also predates Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in its scathing examination of a marriage. For their main stage entry into the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Coeurge will produce Is He Dead? which tells the story of an impoverished painter in 1840’s France who fakes his own death in order to escape his debts, then dresses as a woman to cover the trick. August 3 – September 9. Stephen Sondheim’s provocative musical about successful and failed assassins of Presidents of the United States. Originally produced Off-Broadway, Assassins was supposed to receive its Broadway debut in 2011, but that production was put on hold due to the events of September 11th. Directed by Julianne Donelle.  September 29 – October 28. THE WEST COAST PREMIERE of Sean Graney’s hit play. Originally produced by The Hypocrites theatre company, The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide received a transfer to New York after a wildly successful run in Chicago. A truly dark comedy, the play is literally the suicide note of a ten year old, which his classmates are forced to act out. Director Joe Calarco was a cast member of the original production.

 

JULY 19-22: LA Theatre Works presents Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco.What do you do when everyone around you is turning into a rhinoceros?  In Eugene Ionesco’s farcical French classic that defines Theatre of the Absurd, Stanley Berenger is an unhappy clerk who faces this odd reality in his daily life. Written during the German occupation of Paris, this masterful comedy became a metaphor for conformity and culture that still resonates today. (Thursday @ 8 pm; Friday @ 8 pm; Saturday @ 3 pm & 8 pm; Sunday @ 2 pm & 7 pm)

APR 2013: In 2013, to celebrate the City of San Gabriel’s Centennial, the Mission Playhouse will present a fully‐staged version of The Mission Play.
