Poor, Poor Lear tonight – one Fringe performance only

June 19, 2010

“Art is like a gift, a divine gift! You receive it as a gift and you must give it away, like a gift.”

Nina Sallinen hails from Finland where she honed her acting chops in comedy sketch TV. She’s now 36 and her one woman show, “Poor, Poor Lear” has received critical acclaim. She transforms into a fiery 90-year old Grand Dame of theatre who presents a “tempestuous one woman rendition of Shakespeare’s King Lear.”

The Chicago Reader wrote that the play is “intelligent, astonishing…beyond extraordinary.”

It’s what I would choose to see tonight if I weren’t playing Guiderius in another Shakespeare work, “King Cymbeline”!

Saturday June 19, 2010 at the Paul G. Gleason Theatre, 6520 Hollywood Blvd. Tickets.
