Memorial Day Jazz comes to the Pasadena Playhouse – drop my name for 50% off your tickets.

May 21, 2010

When Paul Lines ran the Pasadena Jazz Institute at Paseo Colorado, the place jumped with extraordinary talent. I know. I was often in the audience.

Now, insert latest economic bad news… Paul had to leave Paseo last year, but he’s found a way to bring a weekend of music to Pasadena. The Pasadena Jazz Institute, in association with the Pasadena Playhouse and Wells Fargo, present three shows over the Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30, at the Playhouse.

Paul has designed three thematic shows:

It’s Spy Night on Friday, May 28, The Pasadena Jazz Orchestra plays themes from The Pink Panther, Austin Powers, James Bond, and much, much more.

On Saturday, May 29, it’s An Evening of Gershwin, featuring Chris Dawson, Sandra Booker, Janice Anderson, and special guest, Robert Kyle.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with Bird with Strings, the music of Charlie Parker’s seminal recording, performed by Zane Musa and Ryan Cross’ Elevation Orchestra.

There’s jazz in the courtyard each night at 7 before the 8pm show, featuring students from the Pasadena Jazz Institute.

Tickets are on sale at here. Use the code JULIAN to get 50% off your ticket price! Or call 626-356-7529. The 3-day Pass is $70 – $120 at regular price and half-off with the mention of my name. And my good friends at KJAZZ 88.1 FM proudly sponsor Jazz at the Playhouse. And, might I suggest appetizers, drinks or dinner at Elements? You won’t have to repark your car.
