KPCC invites you to “Is Theatre Dying?” roundtable…

February 2, 2010

Short notice, but KPCC’s show, Offramp, wants to air a segment this Saturday. We’ll tape Thursday evening in Pasadena. Looking for a few voices on either side of the question.

Interested? Respond here or stevejulian@live.com.

    Hi There,

My name is Matt Wells, and I am the Artistic Director of needtheater in LA. We produce innovative theater (mostly world premieres) in Hollywood and Mid-City. I am also an arts consultant for the LA Stage Alliance and others.

A friend of mine shared think link, and I would be happy to participate in this taping if you’ll have me. In my opinion, theater as we know it may be dying. But theater is not going away.

Old models need to be cast aside for newer ones. Subscribers are being replaced by single-ticket buyers at the larger theaters. But theater is not dying. As Arthur Miller once road, “theater is a weed that can grow in the cracks of a sidewalk.”

    -Matt
