Where’s the Theatre?

January 23, 2010

One of my top personal and professional goals this year is to bring more public awarenes to southland theatres, large and small.

To that end, I had lunch yesterday with Terence McFarland, executive director of LA Stage Alliance, the nonprofit that oversees the Ovation Awards and is dedicated to building awareness, appreciation and support for the performing arts in Greater Los Angeles.

New data on theatregoers come out in late February or early March and, when it does, I intend to get Terence together with some public radio decision makers and celebrities: together, we will begin to develop ways to get more people into local theatres. There’s too much talent in this town to not do so.

Some of this effort will be in the form of interviews that will air on 89.3 KPCC where I am the local Morning Edition host. I’ll publish those interviews here as well, along with photos. Stay tuned.

I am looking forward to this, Steve. LA could be a great theatre town!
